La Aguada surf guide

La Aguada is a popular beach break located on the coast, facing due east. It’s a well-known spot for surfers, especially because it picks up a lot of swell from the southeast and other directions like east and south. It's where most local contests go down, so you can expect to see plenty of action in the water. The vibe here is friendly, with a mix of surfers ranging from beginners to more experienced riders.

The waves here can get quite lively, usually turning into short, fast peelers that can be hollow at times. When conditions are optimal, you can see waves handling sizes around 2ft (about 0.6 meters) quite comfortably. The breaks tend to go left and right, giving surfers some variety. It’s important to note that when the waves get overhead, things can shut down quickly, and you might find some swirling currents. Low to high tide works well for this spot, and if the wind is coming from the west, you'll have the best conditions for riding.

Since La Aguada attracts a lot of beginners due to the surf schools in the area, expect to share the waves with plenty of others just starting out. If it gets too crowded or the conditions aren’t right, you can check out La Balconada across town for a different surfing experience. Overall, La Aguada is a decent spot but be mindful of the crowd and the conditions.
