The mouth of the river Aconcagua brings sand and dubious quality water to the wide beach just south which has become a popular spot for beginners and surf schools. It's well sheltered from all south winds and sometimes the sand aligns for some good rides. Closes out in W swells and prefers lower tides. Head north up the beach towards Punta del Piedra if it is too small and there is always something to ride. Around the corner at Playas Amarillo and Negra are some more beginner-friendly set-ups on wide town beaches.
Real pollution problems from the river and the oil refinery less than 1km upstream. Can also have some bad rips. Crowds of bodyboarders and beginners.
