La Bocana is a surf spot located about 30 minutes east of the Huatulco tourist zone. It's easily accessible and is known for its fun beach break, making it a good choice for surfers of all levels. The waves here are pretty reliant on the right conditions, so the sandbanks can be quite variable depending on swell and tide.
The optimal swell direction for La Bocana is from the south, but it can handle swells coming from the southeast and southwest as well. When the swell is around 2ft (about 0.6 meters), you can expect the waves to break over sand, creating both left and right waves. The best times to surf here are during low, mid, and high tides. Generally, the wind should be coming from the north for the best conditions. It’s a spot that’s particularly good for beginners, as long as the waves are on the smaller side.
This spot is also known for its rivermouth waves, which can add some fun variety to your session. While La Bocana may not be a world-class surf destination, it's definitely worth a check if you're in the area, especially if you’re just getting into surfing.
