La Caravelle surf guide

La Caravelle is a surf spot located in St Anne and is known for being quite crowded. The beach is a nudist beach, which adds a unique vibe to the area. This spot offers a mix of waves that can cater to different skill levels, making it a popular choice for surfers looking for some action in the water.

The surf here is mainly focused on two left-handers – the longer one called La Digue and a short, hollow left known as La Table. There’s also a right-hander called Calif that can pack a punch. To avoid the coral and urchins near Club Med, these spots generally need a bit more tide, so be mindful of the conditions. The optimal swell direction is Southeast, and the waves can handle sizes up to about 1 meter (3ft). The best conditions usually come with a North wind and when the tide is mid to high. This area mostly suits intermediate surfers, as the breaks can get a little tricky at times.

If you’re just starting out and looking for something more manageable, it's better to head over to Le Anse Gros Sable, where you'll find easier lefts and straight-handers in a safer environment. This area is where most surf schools set up, so you’ll find a more laid-back scene there.
