Overview
La Derecha is the most consistent wave in Encuentro, breaking over an uneven reef that serves up long, walling rights on the outside plus the occasional left. It suits intermediate surfers who can handle a reef bottom and hold their own on a fast wall.
When It Works
Swell arrives from northwest through north to east (NW-N-E), and northeast (NE) is the pick for those long rights. Swing the direction more towards northwest to north and the lefts start showing up more often. The reef is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it delivers reliably across that window.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind, though the reef holds shape through a bit of onshore too, which widens the window on an average day. It breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup, with plenty of locals in the water. Beginners are better off heading down to Bobo's rather than paddling out here.
Access
There's free parking along the roadside, plus camping nearby. A lifeguard covers the beach, and you'll find a surf school and surf shop close at hand.
