La Gamelle surf guide

La Gamelle is a surf spot known for its unique setup, located about 200 meters offshore. The spot has been a bit of a hidden gem, surprising many boaters who ventured too close before a metallic beacon was set up for guidance. When conditions are huge at other spots, La Gamelle can still serve up waves on either side of the reef. The right side tends to be shorter and hollower, making it a fun challenge for intermediate surfers.

This place works best with a southwest swell, but it can handle swells from the northwest too. You can catch waves at sizes starting from around 1ft (0.3 meters), where the surf breaks over both uneven reef and sand. The left and right waves cater to different riding styles, but you'll find some decent action overall. For the best experience, aim for mid to high tide, and keep an eye on the wind; a southern breeze is preferable.

As for the crowd, be prepared—La Gamelle can get busy, especially when other spots are maxed out. It suits competent intermediates looking for a challenge. Just know that consistency isn’t the highest, so you might need to be patient for the right conditions to line up.
