More about La Ocho surfspot

General: It's called Stop Eight, well, 'cause it's the eighth stop on the bus line from downtown San Juan. It's located in the Parque del Escambron, just east of Old San Juan. You'll see longboarders and families and stuff here, spread out over a big area, with pop up reef peaks everywhere -- there's also an island reef that sticks out making for some decent rolly right-handers that are partially protected from the trade winds. Bring your partner, the kids, dogs, a longboard and a frisbee, and you've got a fantastic Sunday afternoon. Tides: Not the biggest tidal changes but lower generally better. Size: Head high-overhead+ Wind: South Swell: NNW, N Bottom: Reef Paddling: Breaks pretty far out so a decent amount of work. Spot Rating: Wave breaks far outside and typically best in the mornings before the trade winds increase.

A bit of a paddle but good for all depending on the size.

Park right there.

Late summer and fall for tropical cyclone swells but late fall through early spring for consistency.

Crowd Factor: Can get crowded but typically it is rather spread out. Local Vibe: Can be localized.

Some concerns with runoff.

Car rip-offs.
