La Paz surf guide

La Paz is located right in town and serves as the inside section of Punta Roca, La Libertad's notable nearly half-mile-long, cobble and rock righthand pointbreak. This spot is popular with locals, especially bodyboarders looking for a fun session while sheltered from the onshore winds. While it may not match the intensity of Punta Roca, it offers an easier wave that can be a nice option when conditions are right.

The surf at La Paz is generally less critical than at the main peak. When the swell is coming from the SSW or SW, you can expect waves from about 1 meter (chest high) to over 2 meters (overhead). It caters well to intermediate surfers with its right-hand point break, and it can get pretty good when the swell is solid. With the right conditions and a low to mid-tide, it can even produce some fun kegging sections. The bottom is made up of cobbles and boulders, so keep an eye on where you're paddling. Just be mindful, as the rocks can be slippery, especially at low tide, when it gets a bit shallower.

Access is easy; you can park at Rotherham's or other restaurant lots right on the beach in front of La Paz. The crowd factor can vary, but it tends to be less crowded than Punta Roca. The local vibe here is mellow, making it a good place to hang out and enjoy the surf without the hectic scene of the main peak. It's best to visit from fall into winter for the most consistent waves.
