More about La Perouse Bay surfspot
General: La Perouse Bay is a very rocky bay on the desolate and beautiful southern corner of Maui. You can score powerful, clean and fairly uncrowded lefts. While La Perouse can hold anything from head-high to triple-overhead and above, it can also be shouldery and slopey. When it's big, though, these sections allow you to work on your carving game all the way to the shore. La Perouse is usually cleanest early in the mornings, as the offshore ENE tradewinds pick up later in the day and can make it a little difficult for surfing. Tides: Medium Size: Head high-3X overhead-plus Wind: Calm or offshore from N to ESE, with NNE-NE straight offshore. Swell: SSE to SW Bottom: Rock, Reef Paddling: Paddle out fairly long. Point break, so longer the rides then longer the paddle. Spot Rating: Can be a long, workable left, but is slopey and fat on the shoulders.
Best suited for avid to advanced surfers.
The road leads right to it, but you made need a 4WD depending on current road conditions. Then entering and exiting the water through the rocky beach can be tricky, especially during a solid/consistent swell.
