La Selva surf guide

La Selva is a surf spot that requires a bit of a trek to get to. It's about a mile walk through a private farm, leading you to a beautiful stretch of white and golden sand beach that's surrounded by nature. This spot boasts some of the best waves when the conditions are right, especially with its mix of hollow A-frames up and down the beach. It tends to be reasonably consistent, especially when there's a swell coming from the north or northeast, and you can find yourself in a quiet spot away from the crowds.

The surf at La Selva can handle swell sizes from about 3 feet (1 meter) up to 10 feet (3 meters). You’ll see waves breaking over both sand and rock, with the mix of beach, reef, and point breaks offering different options depending on the size and swell direction. The preferred wind directions are from the southeast, south, and southwest, while it works well at low to mid tide. The waves can roll in as rights and lefts, making it a good spot for both intermediate and expert surfers. When it’s firing, it’s definitely a treat to ride.

While La Selva is pretty mellow crowd-wise, it’s always good to be cautious. You won’t find a lot of people packed in, so it gives a decent vibe to enjoy your session. Just be careful with your valuables; it’s better to keep them close. The best time to catch some good waves is during the late summer and fall for tropical swells, but you’ll also find consistency from late fall through early spring.
