Lacerations is a surf spot that can make for a thrilling outing for experienced surfers. This location offers a bit of a challenge with a right-hand reef break. The scene is often busy, so don’t expect to have it to yourself. The spot sits on a sharp, shallow reef, and as the tide comes in, it can produce some fun waves, but you need to be on your game to tackle it.
For the best surf, you're looking at a south-west swell direction. It works well with swells coming from the south and west, especially when the waves are around 3ft (about 0.9m). The waves usually show their best side during mid to high tide, and if the wind is coming from the east, you can expect decent conditions. The waves here can pitch sharply into a barreling section, making it quite exciting for those who are used to this kind of ride. It’s not the longest wave around, but it does have some sections that can offer a solid barrel. Although lefts can be rideable at times, the rights are generally where it’s at. The spot tends to be more challenging than nearby spots like Shipwrecks and Playgrounds, so make sure you're comfortable in the water before paddling out.
Keep in mind that Lacerations is best suited for expert surfers. The shallow sections can get pretty gnarly, and the reef can be unforgiving if you wipe out. If you're looking for a spot with some serious tube time and an adrenaline rush, this is one to consider, but be prepared for a good level of difficulty.
