Langosta surf guide

Langosta is a surf spot located about a mile south of downtown Tamarindo. It offers surfers a consistent beachbreak and a wide rivermouth, making it a solid option for those looking to catch some waves. The spot can be fun all year round, especially when the Southern Hemi swells are rolling in. Although the main peak can get crowded, it’s usually more relaxed compared to other areas nearby like Tamarindo or Playa Grande. The vibe here can get a bit intense at times, especially when the surf is good.

The surf at Langosta is steep and shifty, ideal for intermediate surfers looking to improve their skills with some big carves and rebounds. It works best with swells coming from the Southwest and Northwest, handling sizes from about 1.5 meters (5 ft) to 3 meters (10 ft). Most of the quality waves are found along the rivermouth, providing both lefts and rights over an uneven reef and sand. The best conditions happen around mid to low tide, with easterly winds enhancing the surf experience. Generally, you can surf here year-round, with the biggest swells typically coming from March to September.

Accessing Langosta can be a little tricky since there’s just a tiny public lot with about 10 spots, located around 200 meters from the break. Using a taxi is a good idea if you're not staying in the area. You’ll find a mix of local surfers and expats, and while it’s fun, be prepared for the crowd factor, which can be pretty high during peak times. Overall, the spot is rated as fun, and it’s a good choice for those wanting a different experience than what Tamarindo has to offer.
