Las Flores surf guide

Las Flores is located on the tail end of El Salvador's stunning east coast, offering a beautiful tropical setting for surfers. It's a right-hand point break that can be a dream for those who know how to ride it. This surf spot is best suited for intermediate to experienced surfers due to its unique setup and often challenging conditions. Accessible from San Salvador or via the Las Flores Surf Club, itโ€™s in a more remote area, so expect to put in a little effort to reach it.

The surf at Las Flores really shines with S or SW swells, where it can handle solid waves from 2 meters (around 6 feet) to 3 meters (10 feet). This spot can barrel hard right at the top of the point and continues to deliver fun waves down the sandbar. You can score rides of up to 300 meters, especially at low tide when the waves wrap around the rocky point perfectly. During smaller swells, the waves turn a bit friendlier with shorter rides, particularly at high tide. Keep an eye on the northwest and north winds for the best conditions, always being cautious of the shallow rocks when the tide drops.

While the crowd factor can get heavy, especially during peak season and good swells, it's worth noting that you might find a little less competition when the waves are breaking in front of the rocks. Be mindful of passing pangas in the lineup, as they come in and out frequently. If you're catching a lot, be ready for a workout with the paddling, as getting back out can be a bit of a trek. Overall, Las Flores is considered one of the best waves in Central America when things align right, making it a must-visit for serious surfers.
