Ledges Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Ledges is a long, fat, workable left-hand point on the northern side of Hatchet Bay, breaking over live coral. A separate right called The Dump sits on the southern side of the bay, so Ledges refers specifically to the left.

When It Works

Ledges draws swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), and it comes into its own on a north swell. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so it needs a decent-sized swell to get going.

Wind and Tide

Look for southwest offshore wind to clean up the face. The point can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an expert-level wave, best suited to confident surfers comfortable riding over live coral. Shark sightings around the bay have dropped off since the neighbouring chicken processing factory closed.
