Les Alcyons is located on the west side of the scenic Guéthary harbour. It's known for its short but powerful left reef break, making it a spot that's mainly for experienced surfers. This place can get busy, especially when the waves are good, so be prepared to share the lineup with other surfers looking for the same thrill.
The surf at Les Alcyons can be quite intense, with waves that have a tendency to jack on take-off and can barrel across a shallow reef. It's best to catch it on a large north (N) swell, and it can handle swell sizes from about 4 ft (1.2 m). The waves typically break over an uneven reef and are best surfed left. When it comes to wind, a southeast (SE) breeze is preferable, and it's ideal to surf during low to mid tide. Because of the strong currents, this spot is really for expert surfers only.
This surf spot is also known as Harotzen Costa. While it can be inconsistent at times, when the conditions are right, it offers an exciting ride. Just keep in mind that it can get pretty crowded when the waves are firing, so patience might be needed to score some waves.
