Overview
Les Conches/Bud Bud is a consistent dune-backed beachbreak stretch with sandbank peaks that can range from mellow and cruisey to hollow and powerful. Les Conches is the easier, more accessible option near the main car park, while walking south toward Bud Bud brings more swell, more punch, and hollower peaks over shallower sandbars.
The setup has lefts and rights over sand, with higher-tide walls sometimes tapering through channels for longer rides.
When It Works
The spot is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is most consistent from September to February, through autumn and winter. Swell from southwest to northwest gets in, with west the optimal direction.
Bud Bud generally picks up more swell than Les Conches, and the waves get more powerful as you head south. When it is big, rips can be an issue.
Wind and Tide
The offshore wind is northeast, with east also in the workable wind window.
It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide better. Higher tides can often make the waves more walling.
Local Tips
This is a real scene thanks to the campsite, surf school, and consistent waves, with all abilities and plenty of different surfcraft in the water. It is best suited to intermediate surfers, with shortboards, funboards, fish, longboards, bodyboards, and bodysurfing all in the mix.
Les Conches can get busy around the main peaks, especially when good. Walking south toward Bud Bud, or farther toward La Terrière, can help you look for less crowded waves along the same stretch.
Access
There is a big beachside car park with free parking at Les Conches, plus restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, surf school, and surf shop.
To explore south toward Bud Bud and La Terrière, walk along the beach or through the pines.
