Lighthouse Southside is a surf spot located on the south side of Pt. Judith. This spot tends to get less crowded compared to its counterpart on the right, making it a good option for those looking to avoid the hustle. It's pretty accessible with the same parking arrangements as the right side, so you won’t have to go far to get to the waves.
This place really starts to shine on a south swell, where it lines up better and can have some powerful sections. The waves generally break over boulders and it’s a left-hand point, which means you can expect some longer rides as the swell builds. On smaller days, there are three peaks that you can work with, and as the swell gets bigger, the waves start to connect nicely, filling in those gaps. While you may catch a few short rights here and there, don’t count on getting barreled; although there can be a hollow section off the first peak when the wind is coming from the northeast. This spot works best with swells coming from the east or south and can handle sizes around 3ft (about 0.9 meters). It’s suitable for intermediate surfers and works well across low, mid, and high tide levels.
Be careful of the environment here; there’s a rock on the inside with a long steel bar sticking out, so keep an eye on that when you're out in the water. Overall, Lighthouse Southside can be a fun spot if the conditions align, especially for those looking to enjoy a less crowded session.
