Overview
Little Island is a short but solid right-hander breaking over uneven reef close to Salmon Beach. A 20ft rock pinnacle on the shoreline marks it out, and the paddle-out runs right next to the little island itself.
When It Works
It draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with a southwest swell the best match, and works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is moderate, so it won't always be on, but it delivers fast, bowly sections when conditions line up.
Wind and Tide
Sheltered by the surrounding cliffs, Little Island holds up when other spots are blown out. It's cleanest on a southeast offshore, which is also the wind that combines with a southwest swell for its best days. Low, mid, and high tide can all work, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and since the break sits so close to the beach it can draw a few more surfers than nearby spots.
