Llangennith/Rhossili is a well-known surf spot located on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. This area features a stunning three-mile stretch of sand flanked by dunes, making it a popular choice for surfers of all levels. The beach is generally crowded during the holidays and weekends, but there's often space to spread out, especially farther down the beach. The local vibe here is relaxed, making it a nice place to enjoy a day on the water.
The surf here can be quite average, yet it's known for being consistent, picking up swell from the southwest, west, and south directions. It can handle swell sizes from about 0.6 meters (2 feet) to 2.1 meters (7 feet). The waves are primarily beach breaks, offering both left and right-handers. Generally, this spot is great for beginners, as the waves lack real punch but do deliver fun rides. That said, at larger sizes, the paddle out can be a tough battle against the whitewater with not much of a channel to help. Itβs ideal to surf during low to mid tides, but it works across the tide as well. The spot is best when the wind is blowing from the east.
There are a few things to keep in mind when surfing here. The break is over sand, which is forgiving but you should watch out for rips that can form when the swell is bigger. The various board types you might consider bringing include shortboards, funboards, longboards, fish, SUPs, and bodyboards, making it versatile for different skills and preferences. Autumn is the prime season for clean swells, particularly from September to November.
