Longbeach is a south-facing beach that can be hit or miss when it comes to surf, mainly responding to south swells. When there's a good S swell, you can find average beach breaks that serve up some decent rides. The beach is pretty laid-back and not super crowded, so it’s a good spot to chill out and catch some waves without too much hassle.
The best conditions usually come when the swell is around 2ft (0.6 meters) and coming from the south. You can also catch some east and south swells here. The waves predominantly break over sand and can be ridden left or right. For the best experience, aim for low to mid, or even high tide. If the wind is coming from the north, that’s your chance to score some cleaner waves.
Even though Longbeach isn't a major surf destination, it does have its moments. Most surfers here are either locals or those just passing through on their way to catch the ferry to Carolina Beach and the more popular east-facing breaks. If you’re around, it’s worth a quick session, especially when the conditions align.
