Los Piccolos is a sandy beachbreak spread along a long crescent of beach, serving up both lefts and rights. It catches better exposure than nearby Playa Blanca, and the north end can throw out a half-decent longboard wave when it lines up.
When It Works
The break really comes alive on the windiest days, when swell gets pushed down the east coast and into the bay. It draws swell from north through east (N-E), with east (E) the best match, and everything peels over a sandy bottom. Expect rideable size from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean things up. Los Piccolos can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
With its forgiving sandy setup, this is a friendly spot for beginners. Keep an eye on the beach flags and check in with the multi-lingual lifeguards before you paddle out.
Access
Parking is easy, with a free car park plus roadside spots. Onshore you'll find restrooms, showers, lifeguard cover, and a surf shop.
