Lossiemouth surf guide

Surf: Sheltered beach needs a really big swell to get going. Can have good, lined-up left at north end. Environment: Not very consistent so it is often crowded. Park in town. Surf: General: This long, flat, uniform stretch of sand winds away for six miles east from the rivermouth breakwater. Needs a decent swell to produce waves here but can be fun with lefts and right peaks. Beach is sand at rivermouth end then becomes pebbles further along. There are fun low tide lefts by the breakwater wall but access is tricky as the footbridge is closed. Change in car park and paddle across river to access beach. Tides: Low to mid. Size: Thigh to head high. Wind: SW Swell: NE Bottom: Sand and pebbles. Paddling: Easy when small, lots of duck-diving when bigger. Spot Rating: Fun, quiet beach with loads of room to spread out. Better at river end. Access: New footbridge across the river. Crowds: Crowd Factor: Quiet. Local Vibe: Friendly. Environment: OK. Hazards: Tricky access. Season: September - February when the North Sea comes to life.
