Lovers Point is a left pointbreak in downtown Pacific Grove that wraps into a rocky cove popular with swimmers and divers. It's the first of a half-dozen left points that run up toward the top of the peninsula, and it breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand. When it lines up, it's a genuinely good wave.
When It Works
This is a winter-swell spot at heart, needing solid energy bigger than head high before it really turns on. It draws swell from west through north, with northwest (NW) the best match, and works from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. The season runs autumn through spring, with winter the most consistent stretch, though it can still be inconsistent, so it pays to time your sessions around the right swells.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, but keep an eye on the exposed rocks that show at lower tides.
Local Tips
Lovers Point suits a wide range of surfers, from beginners through to experts, and takes a shortboard, funboard, or fish equally well. The lineup has a friendly feel, and crowds stay moderate, so expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working. Watch for rocks and kelp while you're out there.
