Lwandile surf guide

Lwandile is a surf spot located near Mdumbe, often considered its twin. It relies on sand for the length of rides, but the rocky outside point can offer some fast and challenging waves at low tide. This spot tends to work well with an overhead Southeast swell and can handle some Southwest winds as well. It's not the most popular spot, so you might find fewer crowds here compared to other locations.

The surf here has some potential, especially when the conditions align. The optimal swell direction is Southeast, but it can also pick up swells from the East and South. You can expect rideable swells starting from around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). The waves tend to break over an uneven reef and sand, with point breaks that usually run to the right. For the best experience, low to mid tide is preferable, and you'll want to aim for days with a West wind for smoother conditions. However, it's a spot more suited for expert surfers, given its quality and the challenges it can present.

While Lwandile is consistent even on smaller days, be cautious as there have been more shark sightings here compared to Mdumbe. It can be quite a trek to get to this spot, and there are no accommodations nearby; the closest ones are in Presley's Bay. So if you're planning to surf here, be ready for the adventure!
