Magheroaty Beach surf guide

Magheroaty Beach is a hidden gem located along a west-facing crescent of sand. It’s a pretty quiet spot, often less crowded than others, making it a nice escape for surfers looking for some space. The beach is accessible via a track running behind the dunes. It's better for high clearance vehicles or 4WDs, especially when it’s wet. The scenery is picturesque, with an empty vibe that many surfers appreciate.

The surf can catch swells from the SouthWest, NorthEast, and optimal conditions come from a NorthWest swell. It works well from around 2ft (0.6m), which makes it a good choice for beginners. The waves are beach breaks that can go both left and right. It’s best to surf here during low, mid, or high tide depending on the swell, but mid tide is often recommended. If the wind is coming from the East, conditions can be ideal.

Magheroaty Beach can pick up some solid swells, so don't forget to check the forecasts before you head out. If you’re looking to explore after your session, you might want to check out Balyness Strand around the corner, which handles North swells well and offers offshore winds when it’s blowing from the south. Just make sure to respect the currents and stay safe while enjoying your time in the water.
