More about Ma'ili surfspot

General: There are a couple of fun wave options on the 40-acre Ma'ili Beach Park. The two prominent breaks are called Green Lanterns and Tumbleland. Green Lanterns is located at the north end of the park, at the mouth of Ma'ili'ili Stream, beside the jetty. On a medium-sized NW swell, long rights will break off the jetty. On the south end of the beach park is a proper left-breaking reefbreak called Tumbleland, which holds more power than Green Lanterns and offers faster, more technical lines -- not to mention a shallower, sharper bottom. Tumbleland breaks best on a medium-sized SW swell. On big winter swells, the entirety of Ma'ili Beach Park can be awash with surf, thus strong currents become a factor. Tides: Medium Size: Chest high-overhead Wind: Calm or offshore from NE to SE, with E as straight offshore. Swell: NW and SSW to SW swells Bottom: Reef Paddling: Not bad. Spot Rating: Consistent spot that breaks year-round and with broad playing field. Tumbleland can get really good.

All levels, but depends on size and spot.

Easy. Ma'ili Beach Park.

All year. Winter sees stronger surf, but summer can be fun too.

Crowd Factor: Usually spread out across the beach. Most crowded on the weekends and at the main take-off spots when the surf is good. Local Vibe: Usually mellow. Be cool and keep it that way.

Pristine.

Reef. Getting caught inside on bigger days.
