Malaupaina surf guide

Malaupaina is located at the north tip of one of the Three Sisters Islands. This spot is known for its rugged environment and can be a bit off the beaten path. The area has a small village, which can make things like fresh water a bit tricky. If you're coming here, be prepared for a remote experience.

This surf spot offers a pretty beefy right-hand wave, which typically works best with north to northeast swells. The waves can handle sizes up to about 2ft (0.6 meters) and tend to break over live coral. It's not the easiest spot, so it's more suited for expert surfers who are comfortable dealing with a shallow reef and the potential of getting tossed around a bit. The best winds are from the southwest, and the waves can work well at low, mid, or high tides.

While you're out there surfing, keep in mind that the area is known for some hefty saltwater crocodiles, so stay aware of your surroundings. Overall, Malaupaina can offer a solid session for those who know what they’re doing, but it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.
