Malindi Reefs is a surf spot located off the coast of Kenya, facing east and capturing a variety of swells. The main break is situated about 1km from Jetty Beach, and to access the waves, a boat ride is necessary. There are four reefs in total, and the furthest one is around 3km offshore. The area is part of a protected marine park, which helps maintain the natural beauty of the surroundings.
This spot works best with swells coming from the SouthEast, but it can also handle swells from the NorthEast. Malindi Reefs can handle swell sizes starting from about 2ft (0.6 meters) and features right-breaking waves over live coral. It is more suited for intermediate surfers, as the conditions can vary. The preferred wind direction here is from the west, and it works well at low, mid, and high tide, giving surfers a good range of options to catch some waves.
While the reef breaks can provide fun and quality rides, surfers should be mindful of the coral, as it can be sharp and tricky. Make sure to check the conditions before heading out and enjoy the unique experience that Malindi Reefs has to offer.
