Malu’u surf guide

Malu’u is located on the northern tip of Malaita island and serves as a good base for surfers looking to explore the nearby breaks. The area is not overly crowded, making it a decent option for those seeking a more laid-back surf experience. The accommodations at Malu’u Lodge provide a cozy spot to rest after a day on the waves and are conveniently situated for easy access to local surf spots.

The surf at Malu’u is best with northeast swells, but it can also handle swells from the north. Here you can expect mostly right-hand reef breaks, which can be fun, especially for intermediate surfers. The waves break over live coral and work well at sizes starting from 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). For the best experience, south winds are preferable, and you can surf well during low, mid, and high tide. There’s also a decent left option into the lagoon channel, providing some variety when the right is busy.

Keep in mind that while Malu’u can be enjoyable, it’s not world-class. It offers a solid session for those with the right skill level and conditions. With the right swell and wind, you can have a pleasant time riding the waves here.
