General: The wave at Manale is a lefthand reef point on the eastern rim of the bay. It's a fickle spot, but when it's on, it's really good. Summer S swell lines wrap in around the point, wedge up and peak, often with a barrel, then peel all the way in with a rippable face. Turning into the easterly trades, this spot will be well-groomed and clean. When it's not working, there are some shorter peaks just past the reef edge, as well as some heavy shorepound for bodysurfing and bodyboarding just off the sandy beach in the cove. Tides: Medium tides Size: Head high-2X overhead+ Wind: Calm or offshore from the N to E. ESE-SE is OK too. Swell: South to SW Bottom: Reef Paddling: Easy paddle, but can be long paddles the bigger it gets. Point breaks -- longer rides equal longer paddles. Spot Rating: Excellent when working with barrels, ripable lines, and staying clean most of the year.

Best suited for good to advanced surfers.

Hulopo'e Beach Park, the bay just west of the Manele boat harbor on the south side of Lanai.

Summer months, but some of the big WNW swells in winter can wrap a little energy into the bay.

Crowd Factor: Depending on surf quality. Can be hit or miss with the crowd. Local Vibe: Humility and respect appreciated.
