Mangahume point has challenging hollow rights with a jacking take-off at low to mid with a SW swell. Local knowledge needed for paddle out and lining up when its big.
From New Plymouth head south on the surf Highway, State Highway 45. Continue a little south of Opunake, just past Mataikahawai Road and just before Watino Road, park near the small stream. From here its a walk, following the creek down to the beach where you'll find a right hand point. (Sky Williams is the left hander on the same point). Note, you can only access by walking along river, and other surrounding land is private property that you must not cross.
Rips, rocks and sulkiness make this an advanced surfers only break. Gated road to cliff top - surrounding land is private property.
