Mangea Reefs is located about 1-2 km offshore from the Beachcomber. This surf spot can really handle some rough conditions, making it a place where the elements test your skills. It's known for its windy atmosphere, and on those rare calm days, you might find some decent waves waiting for you. Make sure to check conditions regularly, as this spot isn’t always reliable, and a good boat is recommended to access it.
The spot works best with a northeast swell, but it can handle southeast swells too. You can expect waves to hit at around 3 feet (0.9 meters). The reef breaks here create both left and right-hand waves, which can be fun for those with expert skills. For the best experience, aim for mid to high tide when the conditions align right. If the wind is coming from the northwest, that’s even better, as it tends to complement the natural flow of the waves.
Keep in mind that the environment can be quite shifty and a bit sharky, so it’s wise to stay alert. It's also worth checking out Tikilas Pass on Nguna for some additional options, especially if you want a right-hand wave. Always good to have a few spots in mind when you’re out there!
