Manzanillo surf guide

Manzanillo is a surf spot located along the Pacific Coast of Mexico. It’s known for having a left pointbreak that can deliver some powerful waves, especially during the spring, summer, and autumn months. This spot is part of a stretch that attracts surfers looking for good swells and fun riding conditions. Getting to Manzanillo is pretty straightforward; just follow the road signs off the highway to reach the area.

The left pointbreak at Manzanillo is where surfers will find the most action. It can handle swell sizes from about 1.2 meters (4 feet) to 4.3 meters (14 feet) and generally breaks over uneven reef and sand. Ideally, you want to catch waves with a South to South-West swell direction and a bit of NE wind, making for decent conditions. The wave typically peels nicely left with steep drops that can lead into long rideable sections, which is perfect for funboards and longboards. When the swell gets overhead, it’s safer since the drop occurs further from the rocky areas. Tides are best at low to mid, allowing for solid surfing sessions.

This area is a hotspot for surfing with a variety of other nearby breaks such as La Boca and Saladita that cater to just about every skill level. The crowd factor at Manzanillo can vary depending on the swell size, so you may find it more crowded during prime surf days. It’s best to be respectful of the long-time locals who know the spot well, as they can be a bit particular about their home turf.
