Overview
Mareta is a southwest-facing town beachbreak over sand, with lefts and rights along the beach. Itโs a sheltered option to check when the west coast is maxed out or onshore, with peaks along its length and fun, unexceptional walls. The more perfect hollow, bowly version is very rare.
When It Works
Winter is the main season, with December to February the best window. Mareta is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Swell can arrive from southeast through south to northwest, with south the optimal direction. It needs a monster west-northwest swell or a decent south swell, and it can pick up a little wind slop during summertime Levante winds.
Wind and Tide
The workable wind window runs from north-northwest to northeast, with northeast offshore. Low tide is optimal, low to mid-high tide can work, and a rising tide is better.
Local Tips
Small days are the most approachable for beginners, with easy paddling when itโs small. As size picks up it can get rippy, and channels can be lacking.
Shortboards, funboards, longboards, fish and bodyboards all suit the spot. It can get busy, especially during winter holiday periods when other breaks are maxed out or blown out, and the lineup can feel a bit tense when crowded.
Access
There is parking overlooking the beach, with a car park with free parking and roadside parking. Facilities include restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school and a surf shop.
