Margam / Kenfig Sands is known for its beachbreaks, offering some decent surfing opportunities. This spot is particularly popular at the Kenfig end, where the waves can be more favorable. It’s a good place to check out if you’re in the area and looking for a surf session.
The surf here generally works best with a south-west swell and can handle swell sizes up to around 2ft (0.6 meters). You’ll find waves breaking over sandy bottoms, and surfers can catch both left and right waves. For the best experience, look for east winds and try to surf during low, mid, or high tides. The conditions can be pretty average, so it’s good to keep your expectations in check.
For access, park at Kenfig Pools and take a walk across the dunes to reach the beach. It’s a straightforward walk, so you won’t have to trek far to hit the water.
