Margara is a right reef/point break located right off the road in Arecibo. It's a decent surf spot that typically features an A-frame on the drop and tends to bowl for about 15 meters before smoothing out into a longer, rippable wall that runs into a small bay. Be aware that it’s pretty sensitive to wind, so conditions can change quickly depending on the breeze.
The surf here can range from 1.2 meters (4ft) to about 3.6 meters (12ft), with the best swells coming from the NorthEast, EastNorthEast, East, EastSouthEast, and SouthEast. It usually works best during low to mid tides, although it can handle mid to high as well. The waves break over rock, presenting rights and some lefts, and are suited for intermediate to expert surfers. If you’re out there on a day with some size, be prepared for a workout in the paddling department.
Margara gets a bit crowded when the surf is on, and the local vibe can be intense since Arecibo locals are serious about their waves. This spot shines during the late summer and fall when tropical swells hit, but it can offer consistent surf from late fall to early spring too. There’s a parking lot right across the street for easy access, so you can get to the waves quickly.
