Fickle Mataveri has the longest wave on the island with 800m rides possible, from the rocky outcrop that prevents it linking all the way through from the island. Needs a moderate swell with long period to work and the more W in it the better. Fast and tubular wave that is deceptive and always bigger than it looks.
This is a challenging wave for experienced surfers only. Easy entry by jumping off the cliff but exiting the sea is super-sketchy. Climb onto barely submerged rack and scale 6ft razor sharp lava cliff, pull up board, then repeat with board under arm before reaching ledge and safety from the sets.
