More about Maycocks surfspot

General: Maycocks is located on the northwest side of Barbados. As such, N or NNW swells are needed to turn the wave on. When those swells are hitting, Maycocks can offer a long, lined-up right with barrel sections depending on the swell size, direction and tide. Works best on the lower tides. The wave starts far up the reef, peeling too fast to ride, then enters the takeoff section where it slows down enough to catch, as it begins to bend into the bay in a long flawless speed line, brushed clean by the offshore easterly tradewinds. Tides: Low, incoming Size: Chest high-double overhead Wind: E or NE; trade winds are offshore Swell: N, NNW Bottom: Reef Paddling: Not bad on the inside but lots of work if the outside is working. Spot Rating: Break on the Northwest side of the island so the normal trade winds are offshore. Doesn't turn on all that often.

Beginner to advanced depending on the surf.

Driving north on the west coast to past the Port. St. Charles condos then take a left. Travel past the cement plant and take the next left. Another left after the bakery and park on the side of the road and hike down one of the paths.

Winter

Crowd Factor: Not usually. Local Vibe: Mellow.
