Medewi surf guide

Medewi is a surf spot located on the west coast of Bali, known for its relaxed vibe. It's a bit of a trek from Kuta, requiring a long, busy drive of about two hours, but many surfers find it worth the trip. The area is not only picturesque with its black sand beach but also features some great local accommodations, often called losmens, right on the point.

The surf here is mostly about the left-hand waves that break over a mix of boulders and smooth sand. Medewi tends to pick up the best conditions with S-SW swells, making it pleasant for riders of all abilities, including beginners. When the waves are lined up just right, you can enjoy long rides that can stretch up to half a kilometer. This spot seems to handle swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and performs well when the tide is low, mid, or even high. The best winds for surfing here are typically from the northeast, but be mindful that it doesn't deal well with SE or NW trade winds.

Besides the main point, there are endless black sand beach breaks and numerous river mouths to explore in both directions. This gives surfers more options depending on their mood and the surf conditions. It's a laid-back spot that's perfect for those looking to get some quality time on the waves without the crowd of more famous Bali breaks.
