More about Mitchell's Cove surfspot

Classic righthand pointbreak/sandbar set-up best during large, clean swells and low tides. Gets hollow, fast and crowded. One of the best spots in the county when it’s on and the sections connect. Any swell, W to N, low incoming tide best.

General: Mitchell's Cove is a right point that loves a low tide and a winter swell in the overhead to double-overhead range. When Mitchell's is firing, it is one of the better right points on the California coast. This place is fickle and finicky, but it can blow your mind on the right day. Tides: Low incoming Size: Waist high-2X overhead Wind: E, N, and some NW Swell: W, NW, SW Bottom: Rock reef and sand Paddling: Moderate. Spot Rating: Quite good.

Intermediate-Advanced

Parking along the street.

January-December

Crowd Factor: When it's good, it's packed. Local Vibe: Certainly.

Watch for shallow reef action on the outside take-off area and a wicked shorepound on the inside sandbar.

Fair. There's a huge sewage outfall just offshore of Mitchell's Cove.

Drop-ins, rock reef, kelp, hold downs, thrashings when it's big.
