More about Mompiche surfspot

One of Ecuador’s best waves, Mompiche is all about long tubular rides in perfect scenery. This left pointbreak starts with a barreling first section before reeling over a sharp rock ledge and is well protected from the S winds of the dry season. NW and W swells work best but it has been surfed on strong SW swells. Shoulders off and fattens up when smaller, keeping the longboarders happy.

Good intermediates and up for the point but improvers can get some smaller sandy ones inside the bay at higher tides. Despite the long walk the wave is popular with surfers from Bahía de Caráquez and Atacames and they appear in force when it is on. These locals are usually friendly, but be respectful! The Muisne rivermouth can groom some nice sandbars up the beach.
