More about Moose surfspot

The rocky beachbreak peak of The Moose is one of the closest and easily accessible spots to Halifax, so it’s often crowded. Gets good on higher tides, S-SE swells and NW winds, creating hollow but manageable lefts in front of the giant moose statue. South of the Halifax area, another bunch of popular breaks lie within striking distance of Liverpool.

General: The point at the very top of Cow Bay is this standardized, long right-hand pointbreak, peaking off the tip of the point over a rock shelf. The wave winds down the point to an inside cove that offer some tube sections. Around the corner from here is Moose, the most popular beachbreak in the area. Tides: Low Size: Waist high and bigger Wind: Northwest Swell: S, SE Bottom: Rock shelf and sand. Paddling: Pretty mellow. Spot Rating: Can be good on the right wind/swell combo.

Beginner to advanced depending on the surf.

Park in the parking lot.

Storm dependent: tropical cyclones in the late summer and fall with frontal activity from late fall through winter into spring.

Crowd Factor: Weekends and summers can be packed; weekdays are uncrowded. Local Vibe: Depends on who you meet.

Pretty good.

Cold winter temperatures.
