Newcastle surf guide

Newcastle is located in a small town where a series of beach breaks can be found. Known for its casual vibes, this spot attracts fewer surfers compared to more popular areas, making it a nice option for those looking to catch some waves without the hassle of crowds. It's not the most renowned surfing destination, but it can deliver some decent sessions when conditions align.

This surf spot can handle swell sizes from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) to 6 feet (1.8 meters). The waves break over a mix of sand and cobblestones, with some larger rocks to watch out for, especially at low tide. You'll find both right and left-handed waves, which can be fun for everyone from beginners to intermediates. The best time to surf here is usually during mid to high tide, as the waves do require a bit more water to really get going. Winds from the south are preferable, but the area isn't known for long, rideable swells, so don't expect epic conditions all the time.

Access is easy, with public parking available in the village, but keep in mind that nobody really surfs here, so you'll have plenty of space to yourself. Just remember that paddling out to any nearby islands or breaks isn't advisable due to extreme tidal currents. The spot is open all year round, so whether itโ€™s autumn, winter, spring, or summer, you can still give it a go. A fish, funboard, or longboard are great options to bring along if you decide to check it out.
