Ngombé is located on the west side of the Gabon Estuary, close to Ekwata village where you’ll find ten tidy beach bungalows. To reach the surf spot, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Ngombè lighthouse. This area offers a vibe that’s relaxed but not too touristy, making it a decent choice for surfers looking to explore without huge crowds.
The surf at Ngombé features an occasional long, wrapping left that breaks over shiny black stones and some sandy spots. It works best with swells coming from the south or southwest, and it can handle wave sizes starting at about 2 feet (0.6 meters). When conditions are right, you can enjoy a lengthy ride. The preferred wind direction is east, and it works across low, mid, and high tides, which gives you some flexibility when planning your session. Just remember, the surrounding water depth remains shallow even quite far out, so that can take some of the power out of the swell.
The area around the beach is pretty interesting too, with swampy savannah full of wildlife like birds, monkeys, and even elephants. It's a unique spot, but to the south, the surf opportunities lessen due to Port Gentil’s influence and heavy silting in the Baie de Nazare.
