North HB Streets is the northernmost stretch of Huntington Beach before you hit the Cliffs. It’s a pretty typical beach break that can be fun to surf under the right conditions, especially when you get a good combo of swells and low tide. The spot packs a little extra size during winter, handling swells from 1.2 meters (4 feet) up to 2.4 meters (8 feet). It can get a bit messy, but it’s worth checking out if you’re in the area and want to score some rides.
The waves here can break both right and left, usually over a sandy bottom. Expect to see a mix of swell directions, including South, South-Southeast, South-Southwest, West, and West-Northwest. It’s best to surf during low to mid tide for the best chances, and when the wind’s coming from the north-northwest, northeast, or even east, you might just find something really fun. Just keep in mind, the current can be pretty strong, especially on those big south or northwest swells, so be prepared for some paddling. It’s a spot that suits all surf abilities—beginners, intermediates, and experts can all find a wave here.
Crowds usually spread out, but be ready for them if the conditions are firing. Parking is free on the side streets, which makes it pretty easy to access. Fall is a great season to catch some epic days here, but you can ride it year-round. Just watch out for the local vibe, which is mostly mild but can get tense when the waves are good.
