North Padre Seawall surf guide

North Padre Seawall is a mile-long stretch located on North Padre Island, providing surfers with a mix of uncrowded peaks and decent waves. It's known for being one of the better open beach breaks in Texas, especially on days when the conditions align. Access is easy, with plenty of parking available either on the seawall or right on the beach, making it a convenient spot for a surf session.

The surf here can handle a range of swell sizes, from about 1ft to 7ft (0.3m to 2.1m). You'll find waves breaking over sand, giving it a classic beach break vibe. The waves generally break both right and left, making it suitable for all kinds of surfers — from beginners to experts. For best results, aim for low to mid, or mid to high tide. On a good day, you can expect the surf to be waist to head high (about 1m to 2.1m) pretty consistently. While the crowds are minimal, you’ll have a chance to find your own peak without too much hassle.

One thing to note is the longshore currents; these are strong, so drift sessions can be pretty common here. The local vibe tends to be positive, which is always nice when you hit the water. Just keep an eye out for stingrays, as they're a pretty common hazard in the area. The best seasons for surfing here are late summer to fall, and late winter through mid-spring, so plan your trips accordingly.
