North Point surf guide

North Point is a surf spot located near Gracetown and Cowaramup Bay, known for being one of the more impressive right-hand point breaks in the region. It requires a decent south to southwest swell to really get going, making it a bit selective but definitely worth the wait for the right conditions. The access can take some effort, but for those who are keen, it can deliver some solid rides.

The optimal swell direction here is southwest, although it also handles swells coming from the south and west. The waves usually get good when they’re around 4ft (1.2m) or bigger, breaking over an uneven reef. You can expect to ride some powerful right-hand waves, which are typically best during mid to high tide. It's essential to have expert skills to navigate this break, especially since maintaining speed is crucial to getting through the more challenging sections. An east wind is preferred for the cleanest conditions, but it can still be surfed in southwest winds, though the quality might drop a bit.

Surfing at North Point can be quite challenging, especially when the swell sizes ramp up. The spot is best suited for experienced surfers because of the unforgiving reef and the tricky sections you’ll encounter. Also, the paddle out can be a workout, and for the truly adventurous, there’s a notorious keyhole that challenges only the most daring. Make sure you’re ready for intense rides and some competition from locals who are passionate about this wave.
