Nu'uuli is a surf spot located on the eastern coast, accessible mainly from Vaitogi, which serves as the entry point. It’s important to know that the cliffs here are quite sheer, and the surf scene can be a bit quiet. If you head east from the airport, you'll find some decent reefs that can be viewed from the road. Generally, the wave conditions can mush out after take-off, resulting in onshore winds, which can make it less crowded.
This spot works best with south swells and can handle sizes up to about 3 feet (1 meter). You’ll find that it picks up swells from the southeast and southwest too. The waves break over live coral, offering a right-hand wave that suits intermediate surfers. For the best experience, aim for mid to high tide and check the winds coming from the west, as they create more favorable conditions.
Near the airport, Pua Trees can provide some opportunities for intermediates when smaller southeast/south swells roll in. The waves here can create makeable walls and some cover-ups, making it a good option if you're looking for a bit of a challenge without getting overwhelmed.
