Ocean Beach Jetty surf guide

Ocean Beach Jetty is a popular surf spot located in San Diego, California. It's known for its easy access via Ocean Beach Park and has a lively atmosphere, especially during the summer months when the crowds come out. The location offers various peaks and is frequented by both locals and visitors looking to catch some waves. Overall, the vibe can be a bit stuffy due to the number of surfers in the water, but it's a spot that attracts plenty of attention.

The surf here can be pretty variable, with waves generally ranging from chest-high to a couple of feet overhead (about 1 to 2 meters). It handles swells coming from the south and northwest, and you can find rideable waves with sizes from 3 feet to 6 feet (about 0.9 to 1.8 meters). The main break is a right off the jetty that can get good on its day, while Avalanche offers a consistent left peak just north of the little jetty. It works well with east or northeast winds and is best at low to mid tides. Both right and left waves tend to be available near the pier, though they can be quite inconsistent.

Ocean Beach Jetty is suitable for surfers of different abilities including beginners, and you can ride a variety of boards here like shortboards, fish, funboards, and longboards. The best time to hit the waves is from November to February, but you'll find something to ride year-round. Be prepared for a decent amount of paddling, especially when it's pumping, and keep in mind that it can get really crowded during the summer months.
