Ocós surf guide

Ocós is located less than 10 km (6 mi) away from the Mexican border and serves as an entry point for surfers looking for fun waves. The spot is known for its river mouth, which can occasionally create decent sandbars. However, be aware that it is very wind exposed and can blow out easily, so timing is key.

The swell here works best with a SouthWest direction, but it can pick up waves coming from the South and West as well. This spot handles swell sizes starting from around 2 ft (0.6 m), making it suitable for beginners. The waves break over sand, delivering both left and right rides, and the preferred wind direction is from the Northeast. You can surf at Ocós during low, mid, or high tides, depending on the conditions.

What’s great about Ocós is that it’s consistent and rarely crowded, typical of many beach breaks in Guatemala. If you're looking for a chill spot where you can practice your skills without too many people around, Ocós is definitely worth checking out.
